Risk factors are a
variety of things that can increase
the likelihood of having a stroke.
Some risks are controllable but
others are not. By controlling the
risk factors you be able to reduce
the risk of having a further stroke.
High Blood
Pressure
is the most important risk factor in
stroke. High blood pressure rarely
causes symptoms so people won’t know
they have it unless they get it
checked. It is very important to
have regular check-ups, around once
every three months for some one who
has had a stroke.
High blood
pressure puts strain on arteries,
causing then to thicken or become
weaker which means your heart has to
work harder to pump the blood
through. This can cause fatty
substances to break off from the
artery walls and block arteries to
the brain or heart.
